András Lánczi
Director of the European Center for Political Philosophy
Prof. Dr. András Lánczi is a Hungarian political philosopher and university professor. He studied English and History at Eötvös Loránd University and later earned a Candidate of Philosophy degree, followed by habilitation.
He began his career teaching at Madách High School and later became editor of the philosophy journal Világosság. He joined the Budapest University of Economics, where he eventually led the Department of Political Science and later its successor institute. He served as Rector of Corvinus University of Budapest for several years.
Prof. Lánczi was a Fulbright Scholar at Louisiana State University and held a Széchenyi Professorship. He has been involved in public policy research, serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Nézőpont Foundation and formerly at the Századvég Foundation. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Research in Central and Eastern European History and Society.
His academic interests include political philosophy, the epistemology of political knowledge, theories of democracy, and Hungarian political thought in the 20th century, with a focus on the interwar period.
He has received several honours, including the István Bibó Prize from the Hungarian Political Science Association and the Gold Medal of Corvinus University.
